Environment Fund

As an ambassador Club for EndPlasticSoup we aim to both educate and change behaviour. In 2021 we installed the first plastic-eating fish sculpture in Mijas, with an investment of 1500€. It encourages beach users to bin their plastic bottles and stop plastic pollution.

Protecting the environment has become the 7th area of focus for Rotary International, as it underpins so many of the other causes.

On Tuesday, 15th February a collector for plastic bottles, a sculpture  in the shape of a fish was placed on the beach in Mijas Costa.  The city of Mijas had the honour to receive the collector which was partly sponsored by Rotary Mijas International and in collaboration with Asoc.MiMoana, who regularly clean beaches and sea beds.

The unveiling was performed by Concejalia Arancha Lopez of Mijas Town Hall and Willem Falter of RC Marbella Guadalmina, which is the Ambassador Club for the EndPlasticSoup movement. The unveiling was attended by many Rotary Clubs along the coast.

The Collector is part of a project of the Rotary Club Marbella-Guadalmina who propose placing plastic waste collectors in the form of a fish, along the coast in prominent locations in order to bring awareness of plastic waste and as part of the EndPlasticSoup initiative .
