Global Grant for project in Benin

We co-operated with RC Mijas International who brought this project to our attention.

The Global Grant with a budget of 76,000 USD (76,000€), would provide clean water, sanitary equipment and sensibilization activities for hygiene and water management in 6 schools, 1,800 children and 33,000 local habitants.

 

The availability of clean water in school and villages ensures improvement of :

HYGIENE good practice of hygiene measures – critical for prevention of diseases NUTRITION will allow installation of school gardens with vegetables and bananas

REVENUE by applying improved techniques for irrigation of quality of soil

 Lack of (clean) water remains critical in most of the villages of Borgou. It results in sickness, especially in the most vulnerable groups like children and pregnant women.

 The program includes empowerment and sustainability, by achievement of 3 objectives :

1.     Clean water is available in the schools = HYGIENE

a.     Sustainability = Training and engagement of maintenance of new water wells

b.     Sensibilization programs on appropriate hygiene rules   i.     PLUS : improved hygiene for girls, offering reusable sanitary napkins

2.     Installation of vegetable gardens in school = NUTRITION

a.     Continued support by specialists in agronomy, to ensure harvest of vegetables

b.     Training on water management and recycling

3.     Improvement of soil =AGRICULTURE

a.     Collaboration with University of Parakou and other experts

b.     Irrigation techniques and soil enhancers

1000€ was donated to RC Roeslare in Belgium, who are the lead Club on the project.
